In a speech to the country on Sunday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia is prepared to receive all of its ethnic Armenian neighbors from Nagorno-Karabakh and that the likelihood of them leaving is growing.
According to Pashinyan, “the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh still face the danger of ethnic cleansing.” Although recent days have seen the arrival of humanitarian aid in Nagorno-Karabakh, nothing has changed.
The risk that the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh will consider deportation from their homeland as the only option is rising if actual living conditions for them in their homes and adequate measures of protection against ethnic cleansing are not implemented.
According to the breakaway region’s leadership, 120,000 ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh will flee for Armenia because they do not want to live in Azerbaijan and are concerned about ethnic cleansing.
Pashinyan remarked, “Our government will warmly welcome our brothers and sisters from Nagorno-Karabakh.”
Pashinyan also criticized Russia, Yerevan’s primary superpower ally, by claiming that the security blocs of which Armenia was a member had been unsuccessful.
